Traditional Log Cabins

Log houses and homes
that last a lifetime

  • Something different
  • classic looking
  • solid construction
  • 25 years of experience
  • fully guanteed

Be it a fully functioning home, summer house, garden shed, or play house nothing says 'quality wooden house' like a traditional log cabin.

And its practical too!

Thicker walls make for better insulation- weather and sound, and water just runs straight off.

All our structures are built with quality in mind, and whilst they may look like a frontiers man hewed them from the local forest they still comply to all modern safety standards. Due to our stringent attention to detail your JR Wendys Log Home will provide years of attractive good service.

Your log home is our priority.

Foundations

Pallet style

Pallet style floors are great if the unit is not permanent, or if planning is an issue. The floor is supported on brick piles and is constructed like a wooden pallet, with cross beams of timber supporting a plank floor. Pallet floors are an integral part for log cabins built on wooden piles.

Concrete slab

A solid foundation that is permanent, and probably needs proper planning permission. This type of foundation is essential for strong, sturdy longlasting structures. You no longer have a wendy house, but more of a timber framed structure. Not very commonly used for Log cabins.

Wooden piles

Solid timber poles are driven deep into the ground, with a pallet style platform built on top. Perfect for uneven terrain, to maximize a view, or to avoid unsuitable ground (flooding etc). This is a perfect way to build log cabins in rugged, uneven locations, such as guest accommodation on game farms.

Roofs

Flat roof

This is not a popular roof type for log cabins- our clients tend to want that traditional look throughout. The roof has only one 'fall', usually from front to back (along the width or the unit- using the shorter side for the drop allows for a steeper angle in the same wall heights). This slight angle allows rain water to run off to be collected in a gutter system. To create this angle, the front wall of the unit is slightly higher than the back. A very low profile building is achieved, perfect if you have issues with blocking views etc. A flat roof also requires less complicated framing, making it a slighlty lower cost option to the alternatives.

Pitched roof

A traditional A frame roof, with a ridge down the middle of the structure creating a fall to either side. With the same height of structure you get a much sharper angle to the roof, making water run off more effective, and the rain is running to two points, making it less likely that gutters will be overwhelmed in heavy weather. A pitched roof is considered by most people to be the more attractive of the two options, making a unit look much more finished. Larger units may have multiple frames creating complex geometry. A frames are more complex to build and install than flat roofs, making them slightly more expensive.

Windows and doors

Wooden frames

Traditional hardwood window and door frames work perfectly with the look of a log cabin. They do require maintenance, but so does the rest of the unit. We have a range of different door and window styles to suit your aesthetic, and our skilled carpenters will finish the trim to perfection. With a quick touch of timber preserve or varnish once in a while you will get a life time of use.

Aluminium frames

Not really a viable option in a log cabin, though we can do it if required. Available in white, natural, bronze or even black finishes, Aluminium doors and windows are the more usual choice for Nutec wendy houses and homes. But if you want virtually zero maintenance, thicker glass, slick finishes, go for it, but for a log cabin we usually recommend a more traditional wooden window and door.

Finishing

Plumbing, Kitchens, & Bathrooms

Log cabins are usually built to be lived in in some capacity, either as an office, or accommodation. So you are likely to need to manage water in and out of the unit. Plumbing needs to be carried out by a registered, licensed plumber. Be it a stunning bathroom or a simple kitchen sink, our plumbers will make sure it works, is legal, and looks great.
